Coach Scott Horning

Scott Horning

Having been involved with coaching the girls of Coastal Volleyball for the last two years, Scott Horning now looks to getting back to his roots by taking over the directorship of the boy’s side of Coastal Volleyball Club.

A graduate of Penn State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology, Scott has been fortunate to be involved with some highly successful volleyball programs including the Penn State’s Men’s Volleyball team from 1997-2000 where he served as a team manager and Penn State’s Women’s Volleyball team in 2003 where he served as a volunteer assistant coach.

 Last year, Scott lead the Coastal 16 Blue team to a successful season with tournament wins at The Capital Hill Classic and MAPL Event #3 in Chantilly, VA.
 
In 2009, Scott moved to Virginia Beach, VA from Pennsylvania where he joined Virginia Wesleyan College women’s team as an assistant coach and Coastal Volleyball as an assistant coach with the 14’s National Team.
 
Before moving to Virginia Beach, Scott was an assistant coach for Juniata College Men’s Volleyball from 2004-2009. While there, he helped direct the Eagles to Molten D-III National Championships in 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007. Juniata became the first school in D-III men’s volleyball history to win four consecutive national championships.
 
While at Juniata, he coached 22 Division III All-Americans, three National Players of the Year and one two-time Junior National team player.
 
From 2006-2007, Scott also coached the State College Girl’s Volleyball team (Pennsylvania) where he lead them to two district and state regional titles. In 2006, the team advanced to the PIAA State Semifinals. After losing 12 seniors, Scott lead the team back to the PIAA State Quarterfinals in 2007.
 
Scott also helped in the evaluation and running of drills during USAV boys Junior National Team tryouts from 2004-2008 in both Huntingdon, PA and Chicago, IL.
 
Before coaching at Juniata, Scott was the head coach of the Penn State Men’s Volleyball Club team from 2000-2003. Under Scott’s direction, the Penn State Men’s club team finished in the top 25 all three years at the NIRSA Collegiate Volleyball Sport Club Championships with its best finish coming in 2003 when they finished tied for 3rd.
 
A Native of Lititz, PA, Scott led his Warwick High School team to a 3rd place finish in the 1995 PIAA State Championships, the schools best finish to date.
 
Scott resides in Virginia Beach, VA with his wife Jessica and their dog Raggs.
