This years alumni day was another enjoyable day for all. Around 20 alumni joined in the event, with our oldest member being the 2005 season. It was great to see everyone once again!
The 2008 18N Team finished 4th in the OPEN division of the Northeast National Qualifier, which is the highest finish of any 18's teams in the OPEN division of a National Qualifier in Old Dominion Region history.

The 2007 Team on their way to the NEQ in Pittsburgh, PA stopped by the Flight 93 Memorial and signed a shirt which they left at the sight in memory of all that lost their lives on 9-11 to save others.
In a total team effort, the Villanova volleyball team concluded the Big 5 Tournament with its third consecutive victory after earning a hard fought 3-2 (25-22, 15-25, 25-20, 21-25, 15-12) victory over host school Penn on Saturday evening at The Palestra.
The Wildcats (4-3) won the Big 5 Tournament as junior Kim Maroon was named tournament MVP for her performance over the weekend as she collected 24 digs.
The George Mason women's volleyball team hosted the championship match of its 2010 Patriot Invitational on Saturday evening but ran into a hot-hitting Charlotte team which defeated the Patriots in straight sets, with scores of 25-21, 25-16 and 25-20.
In its second matchup of the Delaware Invitational, the Rutgers (3-2) volleyball team defeated Sam Houston State (2-5), 3-1. Leading the way for the Scarlet Knights were Caitlin Saxton (Encinitas, Calif.) who recorded her 15thcareer double-double (15 kills, 16 digs) and Alex Jones (Chesapeake, Va.) who notched a career-high 17 kills.
Appalachian State University volleyball continued with its strong performances Saturday, as the Mountaineers drilled USC Upstate in three sets. The Apps dominated the Spartans, earning 25-20, 25-19 and 25-21 set wins.
Appalachian is a now a perfect 6-0 on the season while the Spartans fall to 1-4 . The 6-0 mark is the Black and Gold's best start to a campaign dating back to 1981, as no other Mountaineer squad in program history has begun with six straight wins. The victory also increases Appalachian's home winning streak to six matches.
A balanced Mountaineer attack helped Appalachian earn the five point first set win, as Alison Blasingame, Meghann Forsheyand Caroline Sedon all paced the Black and Gold.
Senior Lindsay Callahan(Virginia Beach, Va./Landstown) and sophomore Danielle Erb(Tampa, Fla./Plant) each recorded double-doubles to lead James Madison volleyball to a thrilling five-set victory over Kent State and help the Dukes salvage a split in the Cincinnati Bearcats Invitational on Saturday.
The Haverford College volleyball team lost both its matches Saturday at the 25th Annual Haverford Invitational.
Lindsey Spears posted 10 kills and 10 digs in a VWC victory over Howard Payne University.
R-MC opened the day with a 3-0 victory over the Sea Hawks, winning by game scores of 25-17, 25-16 and 25-12. The Jackets were paced by Jessica Sears with eight kills, while Raena Winton and Mallory Carter each had seven kills in the win. Courtney Anderson led R-MC with 14 assists and Sam Block dished out 13 helpers. Marli Dabareiner led the defensive effort with 10 digs, while Carter and Sears had eight digs each.
It was a successful debut to the 2010 season for the Villanova volleyball team turning in a 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-23) over Campbell at the Carolina Classic hosted by North Carolina.
In her first match since early in 2009, redshirt sophomore Morgan Petkovich led the squad with 14 kills. Junior Maggie Mergen connected for 13 kills and hit a .333 clip.
Junior Kim Maroon got back to familiar form leading the Wildcats defensively with 24 digs, while classmate Courtney Oertli gave out 25 assists and freshman Alyssa Anderson dished out 15 in her collegiate debut.

In the second match of the Carolina Classic the Villanova volleyball team (1-1) fell 3-0 (25-19, 25-11, 25-10) to No. 1 Penn State on Saturday morning at Carmichael Arena.

Junior opposite hitter/middle blocker Holly Goode and head coach Pat Kendrick added a pair of footnotes to one of the most successful seasons in recent George Mason women's volleyball history, as they received the State Player and Coach of the Year Awards, as selected by a vote of Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID).
Juniors Kim Maroon and Maggie Mergen were named to the 2010 All-BIG EAST Preseason Team the conference office released on Thursday afternoon.
The duo earned second team All-BIG EAST honors following the conclusion of the 2009 season and are two of the squads' top returners for the 2010. Maroon was also named to the All-Northeast region team last season.
Maroon led the league in digs averaging 6.23 per set in conference games last season, while Mergen was Villanova's leader in kills with 3.21 per conference outing.
The Wildcats were picked to finish 11th in the conference in the preseason coaches' poll with 81 points, the same spot in which Villanova ended the 2009 season. Cincinnati was the favorite with 198 points followed by Louisville (176), Notre Dame (161) and Marquette (158). Pittsburgh rounds out the top five with 139 points.

Looking to get off to a good start to open the 2010 season, the Norfolk State volleyball did just that, sweeping Navy, 3-0, Friday night in the nightcap of the first day of the Spartan Classic.
Following a 3-1 win over Providence earlier in the day, NSU moved to 2-0 on the young season after taking down the Midshipmen, 25-19, 26-24, 25-22 in front of a crowd of nearly 200.
Sophomore Charlotte Armstead and redshirt sophomore Paige Gary-Canty led the way with 10 kills apiece, while junior Nicole Kessner posted 34 assists. Sophomore Maatra Henderson had a team-high 14 digs.
Despite an epic first set and a 2-0 lead, the Spartans fell to UNCG, 3-2, Saturday afternoon at Joseph Echols Hall. After two awful Sets 3 and 4, the Spartans nearly came away with the win in Set 5 before UNCG pulled out the late victory to drop NSU’s record to 2-1. Freshman Arielle Knafel was one of four Spartans in double figures in kills with 17. She was also one of three players to post a double-double with 23 digs. Sophomore Charlotte Armstead added 14 kills, while junior Jasmine Frazier andPaige Gary-Canty each posted 12.
The Seton Hall women's volleyball team started off the 2010 season with a 3-2 (25-27, 22-25, 25-22, 25-17, 15-9) comeback win over William and Mary in the first game of the Tribe Invitational. The Pirates (1-0) take on Winthrop later today.

JMU won by set scores of 25-17, 25-12 and 28-26 to improve to 1-0 on the 2010 campaign. Stetson dropped to 0-1.
Junior Holly Goode has been named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association's All-East Region Team, while sophomore Kelsey Bohman earned honorable mention from the AVCA, which announced its selections on Wednesday. The two players were recognized two weeks ago as part of the All-Colonial Athletic Association First Team.
A 6'1" middle blocker/opposite hitter, Goode earned CAA Player of the Year honors after she finished third in the conference with 403.5 points, an average of 3.70 including 3.17 kills per set. Goode was also selected the Most Outstanding Performer of the CAA Championship after posting back-to-back 20-kill performances in leading the Patriots to their eighth conference title and first since 2003. For her efforts during the tournament, she was named one of Collegiate Volleyball Update's Top Performers on Dec. 1. The Virginia Beach, Va., native was a two-time CAA Player of the Week and was named to three All-Tournament Teams in 2009.
Sophomore Kim Maroon was named to the 2009 AVCA Division I All-Northeast Region team, the AVCA announced Wednesday afternoon. Maroon is the third player in Villanova volleyball history to earn all-region honors and the first for the Wildcats since Alona Cherkez in 2007. At libero Maroon led the Wildcats and the BIG EAST in digs all season and finished with 6.02 digs per set. She broke Villanova's single season record for digs- which had stood since 1995- with 674 overall. Maroon had six matches with 30+ digs, including 45 digs in a win over UConn, which was the second highest total in digs in the NCAA this season. "Kim had an outstanding season and I am glad that she is being recognized by the AVCA," head coach Josh Steinbach said. The northeast region encompasses the America East Conference, Atlantic 10 Conference, BIG EAST Conference, Ivy League, Patriot League and Providence College. This is the first All-region honor for Maroon. She was also named to the All-BIG EAST second team squad for her performance in 2009.
Junior middle blocker/opposite hitter Holly Goode had a breakout season in 2009 for the George Mason women's volleyball team, and the Colonial Athletic Association has rewarded her efforts by naming her its Player of the Year.
The junior led the Patriots with 303 kills in 96 sets. She ranked third in the CAA in kills per set (3.16), fifth with a .293 attack percentage and third in points per set with 3.68. Goode also contributed defensively, ranking second on the team with 220 digs and third on the squad with 81 total blocks.
The Virginia Beach, Va., native tallied nine double-doubles this season, second-most on the team. She is the first Mason player since 2003 to receive CAA Player of the Year accolades, when Aline Pereira won the last of her three consecutive awards.

Hall led Shepherd to a 3-0 week that clinched the #2 seed in this week's WVIAC Tournament...The Virginia Beach native had 34 kills, 16 digs, and nine total blocks in wins against Fairmont State, Bluefield State, and Concord.
Kelsey Cantwell of the Haverford College volleyball team was named Centennial Conference Player of the Week as announced by the league office Wednesday. Cantwell tallied 33 kills and 25 digs in two matches, helping the Fords claim their fourth-straight conference title last weekend. In the conference semifinal match against Swarthmore, Cantwell registered a match-high 20 kills, hit an astounding .486 and had 15 digs. Cantwell added 13 kills, 10 digs and three block assists in Haverford’s sweep of Gettysburg in the Centennial championship. The last of her 13 kills was the match-clinching point.
The CNU volleyball team punched its ticket to the Elite 8 with a thrilling, 3-2, victory over Salisbury Saturday night. The Captains overcame a 2-0 set deficit to take the win, capturing the New York Regional championship. Harris led CNU with 20 kills, while Jansen had 15 and Kara Elder 11. Abby Hogge hauled in 27 digs and Elder added 15 with Harris and Heavenrich each chipping in with 11. Heavenrich also contributed 51 assists and McClure had four service aces.
Kelsey Cantwell registered a double-double with 12 kills and 12 assists. Rebecca Salvo joined Cantwell with 10 kills and a team-high 16 digs. Kate Comey had 30 assists for the second straight match and Franny Glick tallied 15 digs.
Leading the blocking attack, which held a dominating 18-to-5 advantage over the Dukes (11-19, 4-10), were Turner, junior Holly Goode and sophomore Kelsey Bohman, who each tallied nine total blocks. Junior Fernanda Bartels had a match-high 40 assists while freshman Koala Matsuoka led the team with nine digs.
Junior Lindsay Callahan (Virginia Beach, Va./Landstown) registered eight kills and seven digs for the Dukes. She became just the third player in JMU history to surpass 1,000 kills for her career as a junior, the ninth to reach the mark overall. She also climbed from sixth to fourth in career attack attempts with 2,993.

Jessica Sears earned ODAC Rookie of the Year recognition. She proved solid on both sides of the ball in her first collegiate campaign. She is second on the team with 222 kills (2.34 kpg) and 377 digs (3.97 dpg). She recorded double figure kills 10 times and had 20 or more digs on five different occasions. She had a season-high 15 kills against Salisbury, a match in which she also collected 22 digs.
April Hines earns her third consecutive second-team choice as well. Hines has recorded 159 kills on the season which is fourth on the Yellow Jacket squad and her 77 total blocks defensively was tops on the R-MC squad and her .089 stuffs per game ranks fifth among ODAC leaders.
Lindsey Spears earns honorable mention in the ODAC. Spears, who played one year for Division II Catawba College before transferring to Virignia Wesleyan as a sophomore, has been an integral part of the Marlins' success for two seasons. A communcations major, Spears also owns a 4.00 grade point accume. She has played and started in every match this season for the Marlins and is one of the team leaders in kills, total attacks, hitting percentage, aces, digs, and total blocks. That follows a very successful first season in 2008 when she ranked No. 1 for VWC in block assists, No. 2 in solo blocks and total blocks, No. 3 in kills, and No. 4 in aces. She was also the 2009 W.B. Shafer Jr., Scholar-Athlete award winner at VWC. Spears is also one of two ESPN/CoSIDA academic award recipients in the 2009-10 season for Virginia Wesleyan.
Norfolk State freshman volleyball player Charlotte Armstead (Williamsburg, Va.) was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week, the league announced on Monday. It is the second such honor for Armstead this season. Armstead hit 41-percent from the floor with a career-high 15 kills in a 3-2 loss to South Carolina State. In the win over Bethune-Cookman, Armstead posted nine kills and added three blocks. For the week, Armstead hit .388 with just five errors in 49 attempts.
Freshman Hannah Hugeback continued her strong play of late, posting double-figure kills in a pair of road BIG EAST matches over the weekend. Hugeback had 12 kills at Notre Dame and followed that up with a career-high 17 kills to go with 11 digs at DePaul, marking her second career double-double. Hugeback has now reached 10 or more kills in her last five matches since joining the starting lineup.
The No. 25-ranked Haverford College volleyball team fended off a late comeback by Swarthmore College for a 3-1 (25-18, 25-7, 22-25, 25-21) victory in the Centennial Conference semifinals Saturday afternoon at Gooding Arena. Haverford advances to its fourth consecutive championship match and now has a chance to become just the third four-peat in Centennial history.

In a matchup of two teams that will both earn a spot in the Colonial Athletic Association tournament later this month, the George Mason women's volleyball team pushed VCU to the brink but ultimately the Rams held on for a five-set victory on Saturday evening at the Siegel Center. Set scores were 25-17, 22-25, 13-25, 25-15, 15-13.
Junior Holly Goode led the Patriot effort with a double-double performance, recording 15 digs and 13 kills while also adding seven blocks. Sophomore Kelsey Bohman led all players with nine blocks, part of a Mason unit which held a 13-to-7 advantage at the net. Bohman also joined Goode in double-figure kills as she chipped in 11.
The Villanova volleyball team fell at West Virginia in a 3-1 (26-28, 21-25, 25-17, 11-25) contest Friday evening. The Wildcats played tough defense combining for 91 digs, but were unable to stop the Mountaineers .
Sophomore Kim Maroon had a match-high 36 digs
The Seton Hall volleyball team came up with a crucial, 3-2 (25-21, 14-25, 24-26, 25-23. 15-12), triumph at DePaul on Sunday. The Pirates (10-16, 4-6) fell behind 2-1 in the match and trailed for parts of the fourth set before rallying to pick up the program's 500th win in its 31st year of competition.
Hannah Hugeback (Virginia Beach, Va.) notched 17 kills to go with 11 digs, and has now reached double-figure kills in each match since entering the starting lineup.
The good news from St. Louis for the Virginia Wesleyan College volleyball team is that the Marlins tied the VWC program record for victories at 23 with a 3-1 victory over Tenneessee's Rhodes College in the Bears Classic II hosted by Washington University.
That was the only win in the tournament for the Marlins (23-8) however, as No. 3-ranked and host Washi U. and Culver-Stockton College both posted 3-0 wins over VWC. Washington won 25-12, 25-20, 25-16, and Culver-Stockton posted a 25-21, 25-20, 25-16 decision.
VWC junior Lindsey Spears (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes) was named to the six-person All-Tournament team.
One win stood in the way of a perfect Centennial Conference season for the No. 25 Haverford College volleyball. A scrappy and determined McDaniel College team gave Haverford all it could handle, but the Fords pulled out a 3-2 (23-25, 25-19, 23-25, 25-21, 15-12) victory. With the win Saturday Haverford completed its first 10-0 season since joining the Centennial in 1993.
Haverford (28-3, 10-0 CC) amassed 60 kills as a team. Rebecca Salvo had a team-best 23 and added 22 digs for a double-double. Kelsey Cantwell also had a double-double with 14 kills and a team-high 27 digs. Franny Glick, Caitlyn Tranquillo and Olivia Coburn-Flynn all had six kills apiece.
Florida Gulf Coast registered the 3-1 win (20-25, 16-25, 25-21, 16-25) over Campbell in Atlantic Sun volleyball action Saturday night inside Alico Arena.
Five Patriots hit double-digit kills and the George Mason women's volleyball team rebounded to win the final three sets in a 3-1 victory over Georgia State in Colonial Athletic Association action on Saturday evening at the RAC Gym. Set scores were 23-25, 25-18, 25-20, 25-20.
Mason improved to 19-7 and 8-3 in the CAA, while the Panthers fell to 3-7 in conference play and 16-10 overall.

Jarne Gleaton had a match-high 17 kills and teammate Linne Garrett added 15 kills to help the South Carolina State volleyball team defeat Norfolk State 3-2 on Wednesday evening at Dukes Gymnasium. The Lady Bulldogs won 25-21, 26-24, 20-25, 19-25, 15-13.
Armstead (Williamsburg, Va.) hit .414 with a career-high 15 kills. Copley also had a career night with 14 kills and added seven digs.
Sophomore libero Kim Maroon led the Wildcats' defense with a career-high 45 digs in a 3-1 (23-25, 25-14, 25-17, 25-21) victory over Connecticut on Saturday afternoon in Jake Nevin Fieldhouse Maroon had more digs than any other player in the NCAA in 2009, with the exception of Cara Hackmann from Missouri State, who collected 46 digs in five sets.
The Vulcans’ win streak ended at 15 matches on Tuesday night, as the California University of Pennsylvania volleyball team suffered a 3-1 loss (21-25, 30-28, 24-26, 22-25) to Juniata (Pa.), the second-ranked team in NCAA Division III and a perennial national program.Senior outside hitter Joanna Nist (Rockwood, Pa./Rockwood), who was named Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Athlete of the Week earlier in the day, led the Vulcans with 19 kills. Sophomore Bridget Bielich(Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) finished with 15 kills on .444 hitting, while seniorAshley Moore (Yorktown, Va./Grafton) added 10 kills. Senior All-AmericanLudmila Amaral (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Afonso Schimidt) collected seven kills and four blocks (two solo) in the loss.
Virginia Wesleyan College's volleyball team made its 22nd victory of the season a big one Wednesday as the Marlins closed out the home portion of the 2009 schedule by posting a thrilling 3-2 Old Dominion Athletic Conference decision over regionally-ranked Lynchburg College. A crowd of 310 not only watched a thriller, but also saw some impressive individual efforts, including a 51-assist night by VWC junior Marissa Wood (Chesapeake, Va./Great Bridge). It marks her third 51-assist output of the season and ties her career-high total. Wood also contributed three block assists in a total of 12 for the Marlins
The George Mason women's volleyball team stayed close with first-place Delaware throughout the evening, but ultimately the Fightin' Blue Hens came away with a 3-0 Colonial Athletic Association victory over the Patriots on Saturday at RAC Gym. Set scores were 25-21, 25-16, 25-22. Juniors Holly Goode and Fernanda Bartels each added double-doubles as well, with Goode contributing 11 kills and 11 digs while Bartels recorded 34 assists and 10 digs.
Junior Lindsay Callahan(Virginia Beach, Va./Landstown) and freshman Danielle Erb(Tampa, Fla./Plant) each had double-doubles as James Madison defeated Towson 3-1 in a Colonial Athletic Association volleyball match on Saturday evening in Sinclair Gymnasium. Callahan led all players with 14 kills along with 11 digs.
Junior middle blocker/opposite hitter Holly Goode continued her scorching offensive production through two straight-set victories this past weekend and was recognized for her efforts Monday by the Colonial Athletic Association as its Co-Offensive Player of the Week.
It is the first weekly award for the Virginia Beach, Va., native and the third of the season for the Patriots.
Goode averaged a league-best 4.82 kills per set and hit at a .397 clip in the six sets. She led all players in kills during both matches, including scoring a career-high 19 kills against Hofstra, and also added 11 digs and three blocks on the week.
She currently leads the team and ranks fifth in the conference with a 3.14 kills-per-set average and is sixth in hitting percentage, swinging .300 during the season. Her 3.61 points-per-set average places her fourth overall in the CAA. Goode shared Monday's honor with Jess Chason of Delaware.
Goode and the Patriots, winners of five of their last six matches, return home on Friday and Saturday for matches against Towson and Delaware, respectively.
Sophomore Kim Maroon was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll, the conference office announced Monday afternoon, after helping the Wildcats to a 2-1 record last week and two conference wins.
Maroon had 78 digs in three matches and averaged 7.80 per contest. She had six total service aces with five coming in the win over Rutgers and collected a match-high 34 digs against Delaware. She helped Villanova to two BIG EAST wins over the weekend sweeping Seton Hall and Rutgers, 3-0.
Maroon leads the league overall in digs and service aces and is second in the NCAA in both, averaging 6.08 and 0.69 respectively.
This is the second time this season that Maroon has been named to the honor roll as she also earned a spot for the week of Sept. 13.
Freshman Alex Jones (Chesapeake, Va.) has been dominant in conference matches this season as she owns a league best .472 attack percentage in BIG EAST contests. The 6-foot middle blocker has been outstanding in home matches as she has swatted a proficient .568 attack percentage.
The Coastal Carolina University volleyball team stepped out of Big South Conference play for a final time this season and defeated South Carolina State 3-0 (25-14, 25-19, 25-15) on Tuesday, Oct. 20 at the Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center. The Chanticleers improve to 13-9 overall, while the Bulldogs fall to 9-15 on the season. Junior Megan Bickford led the Chants offense with 13 kills on 18 attempts to finish with a .611 attack percentage. Junior Chelsy Kimes recorded her 12th double-double of the season with 12 kills and 14 digs while adding two blocks. Senior Jill Nyhof guided the defense with four blocks and junior Becky Stowers added 12 digs to tie her career high.
Junior Holly Goode slammed 19 kills on .412 hitting to lead the George Mason women's volleyball team past Hofstra in straight sets on Friday evening. Set scores were 25-23, 25-16, 26-24.
Mason earned its second straight win and fourth in its last five tries as it improved to 15-6 and 4-2 in Colonial Athletic Association play, while the Pride fell to 7-16 and 2-4 in conference.

- The Seton Hall volleyball team dropped its fourth straight decision after a 3-1 (26-28, 25-22, 25-22, 25-11) loss to Cincinnati on Sunday. The Pirates are now 8-14 overall and 2-5 in BIG EAST play.
Junior Sarah Osmun (Crystal Lake, Ill.) led SHU once again with 16 kills and 13 digs. Freshman Hannah Hugeback (Virginia Beach, Va.) started for the second straight match and had a solid outing with 12 kills.
Virginia Wesleyan turned in several outstanding efforts, including a career-high 51 assists by junior setter Marissa Wood (Chesapeake, Va./Great Bridge). The total is the fourth highest in VWC history and pushes Wood's career total to 2,017, marking her as the first Marlin volleyball player to surpass the 2,000 plateau in assists.
The Camels improve to 14-8 overall and 7-4 in A-Sun play with the win, while ETSU falls to 6-14 and 5-7 in league contests. With 14 wins, Campbell has its most victories in a single season since 2001 when the Camels went 17-10. The team's seven conference wins stands second all-time, behind only 1998, when the team posted eight. Sophomore setter Hope Leatigaga pushed 42 assists with sic digs, four kills and an ace for the Camels.
Cantwell was the spark plug on offense in the win over CMS with 22 kills and a .394 attack percentage. Rebecca Salvo provided more than just defensive leadership, adding 15 kills in the win. Comey set up the offense with 50 set assists.
Defensively against Pitzer, Cantwell picked up a team-leading 22 digs while Caitlyn Tranquillo added 18 and Rebecca Salvo had 17. The Fords also totaled seven team blocks in the win over the Sagehens.

Norfolk State freshmanCharlotte Armstead (Williamsburg, Va.) was named the MEAC Rookie of the Week, as announced by the conference on Monday. Armstead had career-highs of 13 kills and six total blocks (one solo) in NSU’s 3-2 loss to North Carolina Central on Saturday.
Marissa Wood continued her offensive-sparking efforts for the Virginia Wesleyan College volleyball team by producing 95 assists to help the Marlins to back-to-back Old Dominion Athletic Conference victories over Roanoke College and Guilford College.
VWC's all-time leader in assists, added to her record total with back-to-back impressive showings, beginning with 51 assists in a 25-15, 25-15, 23-25, 25-22 road win at Roanoke on Friday. She tied her career-high total with the 51 assists and followed that on Saturday with 44 assists in a 25-13, 25-12, 34-32 home court win over Guilford.

Towson earned consecutive set wins after dropping the opener and used a balanced offensive attack to top James Madison 3-1 in the Colonial Athletic Association volleyball opener for both teams on Friday evening in the Towson Center. However, in the effort, Junior Lindsay Callahan(Virginia Beach, Va./Landstown) added five kills to move into 10th in career kills at JMU with 882.
Sophomore middle hitter Amanda Hall (Virginia Beach, VA/Cox) of the Shepherd University volleyball team won her second straight WVIAC Player of the Week honor after leading the Rams to wins against Davis & Elkins, Alderson-Broaddus, and Millersville. Hall recorded 46 kills, 16 total blocks, and 11 digs in the three victories, while compiling a .418 hitting percentage. She recorded 11 or more kills in all three contests, including a 20-kill outing versus Alderson-Broaddus.
The 2009 Rutgers volleyball freshmen class moved more than 5,000 combined miles to attend Rutgers. Coming from as near as Virginia and as far as California, the four newcomers all arrived in Piscataway with the same goal – to make an impact.

In their final matchup of the Marriott Cavalier Invitational, the Villanova Wildcats (10-4) came away victorious as they defeated Virginia Tech 3-2 (17-25, 25-18, 25-22, 21-25, 15-9) on Saturday afternoon.
Several Wildcats were honored for their outstanding play in the invitational. Maroon and Oertli were named to the all-tournament team while Andersen garnered MVP accolades.
James Madison rallied from a set down to take the final two sets and beat Davidson 3-2 before then falling to host Winthrop 3-0 on the final day of the Wingate Inn Classic on Saturday in the Winthrop Coliseum.

The Shepherd University volleyball team gained a pair of conference wins on the road this weekend. Shepherd handed West Virginia Wesleyan a 25-14, 25-22, 25-20 setback on Friday evening and added a hard-fought 25-23, 22-25, 20-25, 25-18, 15-7 victory over Glenville State on Saturday.

West Virginia State University evened there record at 7-7 overall and 2-0 in the WVIAC with a 3-0 win over West Liberty University. The set scores were 25-19, 25-7, and 25-13.

Sophomore Kim Maroon was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll for the week of Sept. 14 the conference announced Monday afternoon. Maroon was named MVP of the Villanova Classic over the weekend as the Wildcats went 3-0 thanks to a great defensive effort from the libero. She collected 30+ digs in back-to-back matches with a career-high 38 in the victory over Princeton and followed that with 33 digs against George Washington to average 7.08 for the weekend. Maroon also added 11 service aces for the weekend including five in the George Washington match. Maroon leads the conference in digs, averaging 6.00 per set and is third in NCAA Division I. She also leads the league with 0.61 service aces per set and has 25 overall to rank eighth in the country.
Kelsey Cantwell, who was named MVP of the tournament, also had 11 kills to go along with 17 digs. Rachel Salvo posted 10 kills and 10 digs while Kate Comey handed out 46 assists and made five blocks. Caitlyn Tranquillo helped the defense with 13 digs.
The Fords got to the championship by defeating Massachussetts Institute of Technology, 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 25-21) in the morning. Rachel Salvo amassed 10 kills and 11 digs. Rebecca Salvo and Cantwell each had nine kills while Rebecca Salvo led the defense with 14 digs and Cantwell had 11 and four service aces. Abbassi added seven kills and Tranquillo had 11 digs.
Sophomore Kim Maroon collected 33 digs en route to winning MVP of the Villanova Classic on Saturday evening as the Wildcats defeated George Washington 3-1 (25-20, 25-17, 23-25, 28-26) at Jake Nevin Fieldhouse.
The Wildcats are back in action on Friday, Sept. 18 against Albany at 4:30 p.m. as they travel to Virginia for the final tournament before conference season begins.
Mason returned to its winning ways, defeating the host Wolfpack in four sets (25-20, 25-19, 22-25, 25-18) in its first action of the day. Junior Holly Goode reached double figures in kills, with 13, Goode completed a double-double with 11 digs. Goode earned her second double-double of the day, leading the Patriots with 16 digs and 13 kills in a five-set thriller as Mason topped DePaul.
Against Moravian, Kelsey Cantwell led the way with 11 kills and a .500 hitting percentage. Cantwell recorded 13 digs for a double-double. Rachel and Rebecca Salvo chipped in with eight kills apiece and 16 and 13 digs, respectively. As a team, Haverford (7-0) had seven service aces.
In the second match of the evening, Cantwell and both Rachel and Rebecca Salvo posted double-doubles. Rachel Salvo had 15 kills and 15 digs, while Rebecca notched 13 kills and a team-high 17 digs. Cantwell had 10 kills (.400 hitting percentage) and 14 digs. Kate Comey turned in 47 assists, two service aces and one block solo.
Leatigaga, a Newport News, Va. native, ended the night with a double-double, posting 35 assists and 10 digs and 2 kills to lead Campbell University over Stetson.

The Rams downed Slippery Rock, 25-19, 25-21, 20-25, 29-27 before falling to host IUP, 25-14, 22-25, 25-18, 25-19.Sophomore middle hitter Amanda Hall (Virginia Beach, VA/Cox) had 17 kills and 14 digs to pace the Rams against Slippery Rock, and Hall added a team-best 12 kills against IUP.

Buffalo outhit Youngstown State .275 to -.013 with the help of nine blocks in a three-set victory on Friday at Alumni Arena. However, Freshman Suzanne Lasseigne a 2009 CVVC grad, led YSU with five kills for the match.
Mallory James (08' Grad) and April Hines (06' Grad) complimented Carter’s performance on offense with eight and seven kills, respectively. Defensively, Jessica Sears (09' Grad) and Love each had seven digs, while Hines and James each had four blocks for the Jackets.

The Slippery Rock University volleyball team finished day two of the Atlantic Region crossover weekend hosted by Indiana (Pa.) 1-1 with a 3-0 win over Goldey-Beacom and a 3-1 loss to Shepherd. Keira Peoples led all players with eight kills on 13 attempts and a solo block
Wood, a sophomore from Chesapeake, Va. (Great Bridge/Coastal VA VBC), helped lead the Marlins to a 4-1 mark on the week by notching nine kills, 171 assists, 8 aces, 7 blocks and 41 digs. With her effort this week, Wood set a Virginia Wesleyan single-season record in assists by bringing her total to 1,079. She also tied her second and third highest assist totals of the season at 46, against Marietta College, and 43 against St. Mary’s College.
Corgrats to Ashley who led all defensive players this weekend at the North Alabama Classic as she had an average of 3.13 digs per set.

The Villanova volleyball team finished its opening weekend with a perfect record as it completed the Maryland Invitational with a 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-15) sweep over host squad Maryland on Saturday evening. Sophomore Morgan Petkovich was named tournament MVP with classmates Maggie Mergen and Kim Maroon earning a spot on the all-tournament squad. Congrats Kim, keep up the good work!
